About the haka

Most people will know the haka from the famous New Zealand rugby team, The All Blacks – who use the haka ‘Ka Mate’ – but of course there is much more to this traditional dance.

Outside Aotearoa (the Māori word for New Zealand, which translates as “the land of the long white cloud”) haka performances are most often seen in sports, where they are traditionally performed as a challenge.

However, a haka can also be performed as a welcome when two parties meet, or to honour guests and mark an important occasion.

There is a great sense of national pride surrounding this passionate, and captivating dance but nothing beats the feeling of experiencing it yourself in a group!

Your Teacher from ***Aotearoa*, New Zealand**

Your teacher, Tamar, is an inspirational leader, artist, musician, and gifted singer. Born in Aotearoa, Tamar’s ancestral roots are from the Māori Ngāi Tahu tribe.

Fluent in Māori, English, and Spanish, she will explain the purpose and meaning behind this ancient dance giving you an authentic Haka Team Building Experience that you won’t find anywhere else in Barcelona.

What can you expect?

During the Haka Team Building Experience, you will learn about the rich history and the intention behind the powerful and explosive haka. Tamar will guide you through the different movements and encourage you to connect to your breath and body.

As you do so, you will feel the heat rising as you chant this powerful Māori incantation. Or as she puts it: “Free your voice, feel the power of the group and… just go for it!”
